About the Game
Grammar King is a competitive multiplayer online game inspired by the classic Snakes and Ladders. Between 2 to 6 players take on the role of Knights starting at position 1. The board features a 6x9 grid totaling 54 tiles. Your goal is to navigate through the tower, avoiding Devils (Snakes) that drag you down and finding Angels (Ladders) that lift you up, to reach the Crown at tile 54 before your opponents.
Gameplay Mechanics
The game cycles through turns until a knight is crowned. Each turn is divided into three distinct phases of wisdom, strategy, and luck.
Phase 1: The Exam (Answering Questions)
All knights answer the same 5 English grammar questions under a time limit. Your results decide the rewards you get.
- Correct Answer: You gain +1 Star, +1 Streak, and +1 Blessing Card.
- Incorrect Answer: You get a Curse Card and your Streak returns to 0.
The phase ends when the timer runs out or all knights have answered their questions and readied up.
Phase 2: Strategy (Playing Cards)
Knights draw their earned cards one by one. You must decide how to manage your hand using four distinct actions to optimize your strategy:
- Use (Drag Bottom):
- Blessing Cards: Cost 1 Mana Crystal and give you helpful effects.
- Curse Cards: Cost 0 Mana but give negative effects.
- Sell or Discard (Drag Top):
- Blessing Cards: Sell the card to earn Coins based on its rarity.
- Curse Cards: Discard the card by paying a fee in Coins to remove it from your hand.
- Re-roll (Drag Left): Pay Coins to swap your current card. The starting cost is 2 Coins. Each time you re-roll, the cost doubles. At the start of your next turn, the cost is reduced by half (min 2).
- Banish (Drag Right): Use your flames to permanently destroy a card. A banished card is removed from your deck and cannot be drawn again for the remainder of the game.
Phase 3: The Climb (Auto Battle)
Knights take turns rolling the dice, starting from the one with the most total Stars.
When a knight passes another knight on the board, he attacks using his weapon damage. If a knight’s health reaches 0, he dies, returns to tile 0, and his health , armor, and weapon damage are all reset.
Game Glossary
- Knight
- The heroic avatar representing the player on the board. Each knight has unique stats including health, armor, faith and weapon damage that change throughout the game.
- Health (HP)
- Your knight's vitality. If this reaches zero due to attacks from other players or penalties, you die and respawn at tile 1. After you revive, your health, armor, and weapon damage are fully reset, but your faith remains unchanged.
- Armor
- Defensive equipment that reduces incoming damage from other knights. The higher your armor, the harder it is for opponents to kill you.
- Weapon Damage
- The offensive power of your knight. This damage is dealt automatically to any opponent you pass or land on during the movement phase.
- Faith
- When you land on an angel or devil, you are lifted up or dragged down based on your faith compared to the average faith of the other knights.
- Stars
- You gain 1 star for each correct answer. If you earn 5 stars in a single turn (all answers correct), you spin the fortune reels. Knight order is based on total stars.
- Streak
- Your consecutive correct answers. Every 5 streak earns you 1 flame.
- Flames
- Used to banish cards. Banish means permanently removing a blessingor curse card from the game to improve your chances of drawing better cards. Each banish costs 1 flame.
- Blessing Cards
- Provide positive effects such as gaining armor, health, or weapon damage. They come in different rarities: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. Using a blessing card costs 1 mana crystal, or you can sell it to gain coins.
- Curse Cards
- Negative effect cards, opposite of blessing cards. They do not cost mana crystals to use and can be discarded by paying coins.
- Angels
- When you land on an angel, it lifts you up floors. The lift amount is based on your faith minus the averagefaith of the other knights, with a minimum of 1. Higher faith lifts you higher, up to the top floor.
- Devils
- When you land on a devil, it drags you down floors. The drag amount is based on the average faith of the other knights minus your faith, with a minimum of 1. Lower faith drags you further down, to a minimum of the first floor.
- Crown Guardian
- Stands on tile 53, just before the crown. Each knight needs 5 stars to pass at the beginning. Each time you are dragged down, the required stars decrease by 1. If you have fewer stars, you are dragged down. If you bribe the Crown Guardian and land on him, he pushes you directly to the crown.
- The Crown
- The ultimate goal located at Tile 54. The first knight to reach the crown wins the game and is declared the Grammar King.
